Special needs application.

5 out of 5 stars

Special needs application.
Modified for Parkinson's disease individual. Her feet slipped off pedals due to stiffness in legs. Purchased wider pedals from bike shop, (toe clips don't work). Next purchased Sunlite foot holder set, attached to pedals. Note they have Velcro straps to secure feet. Again the stiffness caused back of each pedal to hit the units legs. Solved by adding 2 inch wooden shims. Works perfectly now for maximum benefit.

Like all exercise cycles of this type, the tension adjustment doesn't do much but you still get a good workout, works the legs (arms too) and an excellent cardio work out. I also used in as therapy for an arthritis flare up in the knee. Nice size display, easy to see it while using. You can read, watch TV, listen to podcasts/music while exercising, easy to fit in exercise in anyone's schedule. I have had and worn out several cycles in the past but this one is the best yet! I highly recommend it.

This mini-bike is a perfect exercise machine if you are desk bound for hours behind a computer screen. I use it to keep me moving since my work puts me behind a computer screen every day for 7 hours. it's easy to use the bike and use the computer at the same time which is not possible with a treadmill or an elliptical machine. It surely won't replace both of these equipments but it's a great add-on for busy days.
    Pros:
    – Light though stable on the floor (I have wood floors)
    – effective as it kept me moving almost all of the time I was behind a computer screen (including while writing this review)
    Cons:
    – Battery for the tracking computer is not included and no information is listed in the manual for the type of battery needed (LR44) Energizer 357BP-3 Watch/electronic Batteries
I got two of these mini-bikes one for me and another for my elderly parents to help them keep active during Minnesota winter 🙂

I did some research before purchasing one of these bikes, unfortunately my boss decided not to allow me to keep it at work, but it will still be nice for days when I am snowed in or otherwise restless but need to get something done at my computer.
    Pros-
This machine makes hardly any noise, would not be distracting to others or keep you from concentrating on a task. Most full sized stationary bikes are very loud, so that was a big concern for me.
The machine is sturdy enough and outfitted with little foam bits so that it doesn't move around on the floor as you peddle, I've seen reviews that say other machines do this
My leg muscles are fairly in shape but after awhile I can feel a bit of tension from my leg muscles being worked.
Comes with a timer that will tell you how long you peddled, how many "revolutions" and allegedly how many calories this burned- in the one day I took it to work I allegedly burned around 200 calories. Obviously this varies hugely from person to person but the timer is useful.
    Cons-
This item comes with little tools and must be assembled. It wasn't difficult, but I don't see why it couldn't have come in a slightly larger box and been pre-assembled so there's less chance of the person assembling it breaking something.
Definitely not a substitute for a real workout- think of it as a way to add more activity at times when you are unable to fit in a real workout or must be doing something else. I was hoping to use it at work as I get physically restless and work in a call center.
This unit is a bit heavy and bulky. I'm 5'8" and was just able to use it under my desk without hitting the top. If you are taller, this may not be a good purchase for you.
The pedals are not very large. I have a size 10.5 ladies' foot- about 26.5 centimeters long. I was able to peddle in these wearing shoes, but it is easiest in socks. There's still a definite chance your feet will slip off the pedals, though. You have to kind of get the knack of it, it's not like peddling a stationary bike. Again, taller people may not be happy with this unit.
I haven't really attempted to use the tension settings much, so I can't speak to that. It's worth the $40, but I think if you have the budget for a stationary bike or the ability to easily maintain a gym membership both would be a better option for those seriously looking to get into shape. This is more of a fidget toy.

My wife has some mobility challenges and finds it difficult to maintain leg strength and muscle tone. Walking presents a challenge as she is a fall hazard. So, I bought the Portable Mini-Pedal Exercise Cycle to help her work her leg muscles. Assembly was not terribly difficult. You have to interpret a few things on the instructions or have at least a modicum of mechanical ability to get it together correctly the first time. The two biggest drawbacks to the system are: (1) the ability to increase tension on the pedals to get a little harder work out is accomplished by tightening down a knob on the crank that has the pedals attached. Basically using guesswork to crank the knob tighter to gain resistance. I'm guessing the end of the bolt attached to the knob that makes contact with the crank is metal on metal down in the housing. How long will that take to wear out? (2) The whole device will slide away from the person using the device. It is lightweight and the two base pieces have rubber end caps that are to make contact with the floor and hopefully hold it in place so you aren't pushing it ever further away as you exercise. Sadly…that is exactly what happens. You are slightly reclined on a chair with your legs stretched out and feet on the pedals held in place by plastic straps. As you push to make the crank turn, the device will…. if not anchored to the floor…slip further and further away or begin to cant sideways. You'll need a sandbag or something that you can use to weight the device down or it will get away from you and make you stop exercising in order to re-position the device back where you started. The rubber grips on the ends of the bases will do a bit better on textured carpet than it does on tile, slick concrete or hard wood. The little AAA battery powered computer records calories burned, time, repetitions per minute and total repetitions you performed. Good enough, I guess. Being realistic, I didn't expect a "Peloton" or "Nordic Trac" quality of device for $40.00. Just a bit disappointed that the device will slide away from the exerciser and setting the tension/resistance wasn't as good as I expected. If you figure out workarounds for anchoring it in-place and can get the resistance knob cranked down to give you the rigor you want for your workout, your're in business.

Great little cycle. I use it while watching TV to get some exercise and leg circulation. Took 10 minutes to assemble. Needs to be on a coarse rug or pad to avoid slipping. I also put double sided (sticky) velcro – with the rough side of the velcro on the rug. Keeps it in place and doesn't slip. Velcro doesn't damage rug.

The Impex Marcy, Deluxe Cardio Mini-Cycle was just as advertised. I would have added how quiet it is and how easy the pedals are on the hands (not too big or awkward to grasp). I only gave it a 4 star rating because there was some assembly required, but the tool came with the unit, and it was very easy to assemble. The battery does not come with the cycle, but just 2 screws to loosen and the timer unit pops out, and the button type battery was easy to install. Over all I would suggest this cycle for anyone in a wheelchair who wants to keep in shape while improving their over all cardio health, I can't comment on the leg use of this Cycle, but the base of the unit has wide supports that were easy to install, and they grip well onto any table top.
